Meet The Breeds = Awesome!

meet the breeds...the crowds, the crowds!

Wow, fellow pet lovers. Wow.

This weekend was the Meet the Breeds event at the Jacob Javits Center in NYC. We expected it to be a most fabulous and pet filled weekend, but we really didn’t expect everyone else to think so, either.

It was a grey, cold, drizzly New York weekend. The kind where curling up with your pet and a good book is the best thing in the world. I wanted to do that, but I had a mission to fulfill – covering Meet the Breeds.

It seemed so did everyone else.

Around 25,000 people attended. From 10 am until 5 pm, the crowds of animal loving people teemed along the aisles, asking questions, taking pictures, petting all kinds of cat and dog breeds, and sampling some luxury pet products for dogs and cats, as well as delicious-looking gourmet organic pet treats.

Meeting so many rare animal breeds was a real treat. And seeing how well behaved these cats and dogs were was simply amazing. The cats barely blinked at the barking coming from the dog breed section and the dogs were all friendly and happy to meet so many strangers – some of them very young and very enthusiastic.

A favorite part of the show was also very heartbreaking. Downstairs they had on display a whole slew of cats that were in need of adoption. So many different no-kill shelters, some small, some big (like the North Shore Animal League), were there with their kitties. And people were adopting them. They were all adorable. If I had room at home for more cats, it would be filled with dozens of those sweet and loving faces.

So, keep an eye on this blog, because we’ll be bringing you news of all kinds of fun and exciting animal related events.
