Grooming Your Dog

November 5, 2009

I'm so pretty, oh so pretty...

Dogs benefit from grooming, and not just the long haired hippy types, either.

Not only do they look better after a nice shampooing and brushing, but they feel better, too. Brushing helps distribute the natural oils and keeps coats stay shiny in between dog salon visits.

If your dog has long hair, it can often look dull and get matted. A lot of people think it’s easier to simply get the dog shaved. But this is a bad idea. Shaving exposes the dog to the elements, especially the sun (which can lead to sunburn). And remember, dogs aren’t meant to go naked. They like wearing fur. It protects them, keeps them warm and looks good.

If you’re worried about dealing with unruly long hair then why not try some organic or luxury dog shampoos, conditioners and other supplies. The right product can make your dog’s fur silky and smooth and miraculously knot and burr free.

These kind of quality products have the added bonus of keeping your dog’s skin nice and moisturised and are often created to help even the most sensitive or problematic dog skin.

So there you go. Get yourself a nice brush, and some top notch pet grooming supplies and you’ll be the talk of the town (or at least the doggy park).

Tonight is the North Shore Animal League Fundraiser

November 5, 2009

all dressed up and somewhere to go!
Held at the glamorous Cipriani’s in New York City, this gala is going to be great. And it’s for a good cause, too – raising money for America’s largest no-kill shelter, the North Shore Animal League, and one of Prince Lorenzo Borghese‘s favourite charities.

He’ll be there tonight with his family and other celebrities.

Go to North Shore Animal League to buy a ticket or to make a donation. Anything at all is welcome.

We hope to see you there tonight!

Flossie, Drew Barrymore’s Heroic Dog

November 3, 2009

Drew & Flossie

After Bond’s blog entry, we thought it entirely right to honour celebrity dogs, especially those who are bonafide heroes.

Like Drew Barrymore’s chow/labrador mix, Flossie.

Flossie was rescued from a Pasadena flea market way back in 1996 by Drew, and Flossie quickly became like a daughter to Drew. But it was in 2001 that Flossie really showed her true colours.

Drew and her then-husband, Tom Green, were sleeping when a fire broke out. Flossie’s wild barking and loud thumping on the closed bedroom door woke the couple and saved their lives.

Whoever said the ‘ordinary’ could never do the extraordinary was completely wrong.

And Flossie is more than a heroic dog, she’s also a fashionista! Drew encourages Flossie to chew on her new jeans to give them that perfect distressed look.

We wonder if Flossie and Drew will get invites to Bond’s fund-raising cruise?

And please, send us your stories of heroic pets – we’d love to hear them.

Bond’s Blog. Day One.

November 3, 2009

Bond, spiffed & ready to go. where's my dogitini?

Bond here, Bartholomew Bond.

Reality star, entrepreneur, philanthropist and gentleman. Pleased to meet you.

I like my dogitinis shaken, not stirred, my conversations scintillating, and my women…

Well, if you follow my show you’ll end up finding that last one out, won’t you? As much as I’d like to ‘spill the beans’ as they say, I’m under contract not to talk about the show or the hot bitches vying for my attention.

But I can talk about some of the other things in my life.

A rich dog as myself could rest back on his laurels (like some other dogs we know, Gunther IV, I’m looking at you), but I believe in looking out for those less fortunate then myself. Especially the homeless dogs and cats.

In fact, I do have something exciting to share with you. I have an upcoming, week-long soiree on my yacht. We’ll be sailing the South Pacific to my private island.

Before you start barking to yourselves that I am nothing more than a rich dog with too much time on his paws, I’ll let you know something: this is a fund-raising event. Many of the glitterati of both the human and dog (even some cats are joining in) kind are joining me.

I am nervous on two counts, however. The first is to do with Ellen DeGeneres. You may know her. This hilarious human has a talk show and is very much an advocate of animalkind, something I am for. And Ellen has a beautiful wife who is just as devoted.

Don’t you think they would make a fabulous addition to my cruise?

I have sent them an invite. The cruise is not until New Year’s, so we have a little time. But I would love for Ellen to join. I wonder if she will reply?

Secondly, I invited an old friend Happa, and a certain yellow Labrador named Gordi.

Ah, Gordi. All long legs and golden tresses. A modelling dog who had a heart of gold and the soul of a real lady.We had a thing back in the day. It has been years, but…she accepted my invitation.

I wonder what she looks like now?

Why You Should Spay or Neuter Your Cat

November 3, 2009

kitten love

Cats are so cute and fluffy, and kittens even more so. Who doesn’t want to have a little kitten to snuggle and play with?

Unfortunately there are people out there who want the kitten and not the cat she inevitably grows up to be, or there are people who let their cats mate and then dump the unwanted kittens.

Basically if you have a cat, get it spayed or neutured.

Some people consider this cruel, or feel the cat should mate/have a litter beforehand. But unless you’re willing to look after all the kittens yourself, then this is completely unnecessary.

A cat should be fixed as early as possible. This helps avoid your female cat going into heat (if you’ve ever witnessed a kitty in heat,  you know it isn’t a pleasant experience) and your tomcat from getting into fights and marking his territory – inside your house.

Besides, a pair of cute cats, if left alone, can (along with their kittens) produce 420,000 kittens in seven years.

That’s a lot of mouths to feed.

So be a responsible cat parent and get ‘em fixed. Besides, spaying and neutering means a longer, healthier life.

And if you really want a kitten, head on down to your local shelter and adopt one who needs a home (instead of creating more kittens). We think this is a great solution.
