Haute Or Not? The Go-To For Pet Product Reviews

June 9, 2010

By Diana Waldhuber

With so many pet products on the market, it can sometimes be hard to decide what’s best for your pet and best for your pocket.

Sure, we don’t mind spending more on something that’s a superior product, but…how do you know?

That’s where Rick Tamargo and his Haute or Not? come in. Rick and his personal posse of pets personally test all products on his site.

Rick is a firm believer in saying it like it is, so if he recommends something, you know it’s good. And yes, of course he loves Royal Treatment (the man has taste, you know).

Gulf Oil Spill Toll Rising Fast

June 9, 2010

by Diana Waldhuber

With the oil spill still gushing oil and as yet no progress being made in stopping it, we’re hearing more and more about the innocent victims of the spill: wildlife.

In heartbreaking news, a German biologist, Silvia Gaus, has said the effort to clean the oil-drenched birds is in vain – no matter what is done, the birds will die, anyway.

She has said it is quicker and more humane to kill the birds immediately as cleaning them and releasing them will lead to a painful death as the oil they have already ingested will damage their kidneys and livers.

Other experts have backed her up, including the World Wildlife Fund.

Here’s hoping they manage to fix leak and clean up the oil, before too many more creatures perish needlessly.

How To Control Dog Chewing

June 9, 2010

By Diana Waldhuber

If your dog is chewing everything in your house as if each item was his very own personal chew toy, then you may need some help in controlling this behaviour.

A dog needs to learn not everything is for chewing on, especially not your new $300 shoes.

While puppies go through an intense chewing phase (hey, growing new teeth isn’t fun, if you remember), they stillĀ  need to learn what they can and can’t chew.

Generally a little training will help (as will keeping all your things put away where your dog can’t get them, plus it will keep your home nice and neat), but for those harder cases, some professional advice is always appreciated.

Luckily, our friends at Paw Nation are here to help with a great article from the American Kennel Club’s animal behaviourist, Mary Burch.
