Paul, The World Cup Predicting Octopus

July 10, 2010

By Diana Waldhuber

It seems Paul has done it again. Paul the Octopus (hatched in 2008) lives in a tank at a Sea Life Centre in Oberhausen, Germany, is seen as an oracle for predicting football (soccer) matches.

For all 6 of the games Germany played in this 2010 FIFA World Cup, he rightly predicted all the outcomes, including the game where Spain beat Germany 1-0.

Even though Paul has received death threats from heart-broken fans, he is carrying on. For the final match on Sunday, 11th of July, he’s predicted a Spain win over the Netherlands.

Should fans start celebrating..not quite. It seems there’s another oracle out there, and she disagrees with Paul. Mani the Parakeet has predicted a Netherlands win…who is right?

I guess we’re all going to have to tune in and see.
