Rehabilitating An Abused Dog Part 1

August 27, 2010

Our friends at Haute or Not Pets are bringing us this important and interesting article written by David Hutchins at PupMia.

David takes you through important issues and steps needed to help an animal emotionally scarred by abuse overcome his fears, learn to trust, and help modify his behaviour (often formed as a way of defence or was simply learned through abuse), and become a well-balanced and ‘normal’ dog. And more importantly, teach the dog that kindness and love not only exists but is something he deserves and now has.

Be Just Like A Star – Adopt A Pet

August 26, 2010

There’s something about rescuing an animal… yes, of course it makes you feel good, virtuous even, because you’re doing something good…but it’s more about the life you’re giving an animal that was facing a life in a shelter, or even worse, death.

So many fantastic animals are out there, looking for a loving home, and even top Hollywood stars have been quietly giving these animals a loving home.

Stars like Selma Blair, Josh Duhamel, and Katherine Heigl among others,  have made room in their lives for rescue dogs.

People Pets brings us some fabulous photos by Rob Bellon, and vignettes of the dogs… Click here to see.

Help! Dogs Need Fostering/Adopting

August 25, 2010

The Liberty Humane Society of Jersey City desperately needs help – hopefully yours.

If you have room in your life to adopt a dog (it’s a no-brainer – you get yourself the unconditional love of an adorable best friend who’s always there for you…), or even foster one for a while, please do.

We’ve included in the entirety the email calling for help that was sent out. It has the contact sites included. Even if you can’t help, please pass this post along to friends and co-workers.

Thanks

Locally, as many of you may know them, Liberty Humane Society of Jersey City is in a major crisis.  They typically hold 50 dogs and that number is now at 100.  The
state is ordering them to start doing a massive euthanization job this week
killing 45 dogs.  It’s so sad because these dogs are very much like the 100
dogs we have at Eleventh Hour. I would die myself before having to put ANY
of them down.

I  know these dogs can find loving fur-ever homes if given the chance.
Please, if you know anyone or can help yourself by adopting or fostering,
please contact me or  the Liberty Humane Society of Jersey City. They are
looking for adopters or fosters.  My rescue can pull the dogs for you to
foster if needed.

They started today with 15 beautiful dogs…..

“We cannot stop.

We will not stop, until all of the cages are empty.
Eleventh Hour Rescue is made up of dedicated individuals who believe that
innocent pets deserve love and a place to live where they are honored and
cared for. No dog deserves to die simply because it does not have a home. We
rescue dogs at their Eleventh Hour–when they are scheduled to be put to
death by shelters that can no longer care for them. We give the dogs all the
medical attention they require, a place to live, and through our adoption
services, a second chance at a happy and fulfilled life. We are affiliated
with many like-minded animal groups throughout the United States”.

Thanks! Please pass this along.
