That’s right! October is Adopt-A-Dog month, and has been since the first, so you have 9 more days to celebrate, perhaps by adopting your new BFF?
According to Lorenzo, if everyone adopted a dog instead of buying them, then the dogs in the shelters, pounds and on death row would be zero, which is a pretty great number.
I know there are some of us who are desperate for a pure-breed of a certain type of dog, but don’t despair. You, too, can adopt. There are many breed-specific adopting organisations, so do some googling and you may soon be on your way to having the dog of your dreams, and saving a dog (not to mention giving a shelter pup a forever home).
The American Humane organisation has a great article on adopting dogs, what to expect, and how to be the best dog parent in the world.
So, spread the word, and if you’re thinking of getting a dog, remember, adopt, don’t buy.
