The Hero Dog Awards – Lorenzo Will Be A Judge

September 26, 2011

Don’t worry, this isn’t going to be a costume parade, with dogs having to dress up as super heros!

Presented by Cesar pet food, The American Humane Association is honouring the hero dogs in our society who do so much.

Whether they work in rescue, as therapy dogs or guide dogs or for law enforcement, these dogs work tirelessly each day to not only keep us safe, but help us in so many ways.

The competition is a way to bring awareness, give thanks and raise money to help these dogs continue their good work. Click here for all the details!

Best of all, Prince Lorenzo Borghese will be flying to LA to take part in judging the finalists. And he’ll be in fine company with Whoopi Goldberg, Victoria Stilwell and the wonderful Betty White!

The winners will be announced live at a star studded gala on October 1st in LA, so if you’re in the area, please buy a ticket, have fun and help some dogs.

Does Your Dog Need Glasses?

June 24, 2010

by Diana Waldhuber

Of course not. Dogs don’t need glasses, everyone knows that. But did you know that there are dog ophthamologists? There are and last month the American College of Veterinary Ophthamologists held their third annual national service dog eye exam event.

A record number of active service dogs turned up (3,200 – more than double last year’s participants). This  means researchers have better information to go on for breeding, and it’s a great way to catch anything that might turn up later and harm the dog’s health or eyes.

The best thing of all? The exams were free.

Service dogs give so much in all their areas they work in, so we love to see humans giving something important back.

June Is Adopt A Cat Month

June 7, 2010

by Diana Waldhuber

Did you know June is American Humane’s Adopt A Cat Month? It is and it’s great.

Cats are beautiful creatures. Smart, inquisitive, loving, soft, and they purr! You can’t go wrong with a creature that makes the ultimate comforting sound.

Unfortunately there are so many cats without homes, cats that would love to find that special person to call their own… If you were thinking about getting a pet, then not only is now the time to do it, but what better pet than a cat?

Cats are perfect for busy people as they’re very good at entertaining themselves (and they like some quiet time to get some of their much-needed sleep in). They’re quiet and small and are perfect for small city apartments where a large dog just isn’t feasible.

Sure, you’ll be giving a cat a home, but if you think about what you’re getting in return, then you’ll realise what a bargain it is. People with pets are happier and live longer. A cat will comfort you when you’re down, keep you warm in winter, and always be there when you’re feeling lonely. They love to play and they’ll keep your place mouse-free!

They’re such loyal and loving companions, don’t be surprised if you end up with two.

Check your local shelter and even pet store (on the weekends they often have societies who turn up with cats available for adoption). There are places online you can check, too. Martha Stewart, North Shore Animal League, Best Friends Animal Society, and even About.com are a few great places to start.

And remember, while kittens are adorable, older cats are , too, often mellowed and ready to be your purrfect friend and companion.

Check them out today!

April Is Prevention Of Animal Cruelty Month

April 18, 2010

by Diana Waldhuber

April is indeed Prevention of Animal Cruelty month, and the ASPCA is holding their ‘go orange’ annual events across the USA (click  here for more details and for things you can do to support this cause).

Prince Lorenzo Borghese, founder and creator of Royal Pet Club and the Royal Treatment line, recently tweeted this on his twitter account:

It’s still prevention of animal cruelty month. What are you doing to make a difference? (@lborghese)

Well, he got back some lovely and amazing responses from people following him. In the spirit of Prevention of Animal Cruelty month, Lorenzo is sharing with you their responses, because it’s important to highlight the good people are doing. We hope their tweets will be an inspiration to everyone. It is for all of us at Royal Pet Club.

@loraline_nl @LBorghese I take care of rabbits who have had a bad time, give them a little trust in humans again, so they can be placed with nice people

@Deesisookleuk@LBorghese I adopted my precious doggie from shelter and I am a volunteer with the animal protection, that’s my thing to make a difference!
